A meeting of the locust control working group was held in the Mashal Jamoat of Vakhsh District, with the participation of the Chairman of the Khatlon Region, Davlatali Said.
The meeting was attended by the chairmen of the Kushoniyon, Levakant, Vakhsh, Pyandzh, Khorosan, Kubodiyon, Dangara, Farkhor, Shahritus districts, dehkans (village elders), and heads of relevant regional structures.
It was noted that this year locust outbreaks have also been observed in mountainous areas, and from today, measures must be taken to eliminate these pests.
In his speech, the Chairman of Khatlon Region, Davlatali Said, instructed officials to ensure the implementation of the chairman’s order regarding the regional headquarters for locust control, and also to organize serious work by city and district locust control headquarters in vulnerable towns, districts, and rural settlements to prepare for the locust control season, timely conduct of measures, and in this context, protect agricultural lands, pastures, and fields from Moroccan locusts, as well as to address problems and shortcomings in locust control efforts.
The head of the Bohtar branch of the State Institution “Locust Control Expedition” was instructed to promptly conduct mapping of territories in each city and district and perform technical work on these territories, as well as jointly with higher authorities take necessary measures for the urgent repair and preparation of machinery and equipment, and to stockpile the required amount of highly effective pesticides.
Chemical treatments against Moroccan locusts began in March and will be carried out in three stages. According to experts, Moroccan locusts actually lay larvae in areas inaccessible for chemical treatment, periodically descending from the foothills to valleys and the borders of agricultural lands.
It should be noted that to prevent the spread of Moroccan locust infestations in Khatlon Region, a Locust Control Center has been established, and pesticides, fuel, and other necessary means are provided annually to prevent locust spread.
The Chairman of the region also visited districts where Moroccan locusts have recently appeared and familiarized himself with the real situation.
