In order to achieve one of the country’s strategic objectives—ensuring food security for the population—the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan continuously takes the necessary measures and is constructing modern year-round greenhouses in remote cities and districts of the country.
With the support of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the State Institution “Agriculture Entrepreneurship Development”, within the framework of the Strengthening Resilience of the Agriculture Sector Project, has launched the construction of modern year-round greenhouses in GBAO this year. These greenhouses will contribute to ensuring a year-round supply of fresh vegetables to the population.
The latest facility under construction is a modern year-round greenhouse in Shughnon District of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast (GBAO), where construction works are progressing in accordance with international standards.
The vegetable cultivation area of the modern greenhouse covers 0.32 hectares, and its produce will be supplied to the market throughout all four seasons of the year. At present, alongside the ongoing construction works, the cultivation of four types of agricultural crops—tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, and eggplants—has been initiated.
The objective of constructing such modern year-round greenhouses is to select and adapt agricultural crops to local climatic conditions, introduce modern practices, use land resources efficiently, and ensure a greater year-round supply of locally produced food to the population.
In addition, the area surrounding the greenhouse has been illuminated with lights and landscaped with green walkways, while the entrance area, covering 600 square metres, has been asphalted.
