“Since ancient times, the Tirgan Festival has been celebrated by our people with great joy and in accordance with its unique customs and traditions. During Tirgan, grain ripens, many varieties of fruit mature, and the harvesting of crops cultivated through the diligent labour of farmers reaches its peak. In other words, as the Tajik people say, this is the busiest and most intensive period of agricultural work.”
Emomali Rahmon
The Tirgan Festival is a celebration of ripened wheat and bread, a celebration of water and prosperity, and a celebration of the radiant sun. Alongside Mehrgon, Sada, and Navruz, it is among the most magnificent festivals inherited from our ancestors, with origins dating back to ancient history. Through their unwavering dedication to knowledge, culture, and hard work, our forebears bequeathed to us a rich cultural heritage founded on noble values and the advancement of humanity.
The independence of the Republic of Tajikistan ushered in a new era for the revival of national traditions, ancient customs, and cultural celebrations, breathing new life into them. Owing to the consistent efforts and initiatives of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, particularly those of the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, our nation's cherished customs, ancient traditions, and national festivals have been successfully revived and are being carefully preserved.
This process of national revival and civilizational development has enabled the Tajik nation to attain a distinguished position within the international community. Today, Tajikistan is widely recognised as a nation possessing a rich history, a vibrant culture, a remarkable civilisation, and enduring humanitarian values.
In today's era of globalization, national festivals, cultural traditions, and customs serve as one of the most important forces uniting society. Such celebrations foster patriotism, national identity, cultural awareness, and civic pride among young people, adolescents, and older generations alike.
Tirgan is celebrated as the festival of ripened wheat and bread, the festival of water and prosperity, the festival of the radiant sun, the festival of summer, and the celebration of abundance and blessings.
It is a source of great pride for the people of Tajikistan that, on the eve of celebrating our national holidays—National Unity Day and the Tirgan Festival—another initiative of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, has gained international recognition. The proposal to proclaim the "International Decade for Strengthening Peace for Future Generations (2027–2036)" was adopted by a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly, representing one of our nation's significant achievements on the global stage.
On these joyful festive days, I sincerely extend my heartfelt congratulations to all my fellow compatriots on the occasion of these great national celebrations. I wish you and your families good health, happiness, prosperity, and continued success, and I wish our independent Republic of Tajikistan everlasting peace, stability, and sustainable development.
