The Government of the Republic of Tajikistan is paying special attention to the sustainable development of various sectors of the country, particularly the agricultural sector, and is continuously undertaking the necessary measures to achieve one of the national goals — “Ensuring Food Security.”
On May 13 of the current year, the World Bank Mission conducted a working visit to the region to review the progress of the construction works of the agrologistics center in Bokhtar city, Khatlon Region.
During the visit, the World Bank Mission first held a working meeting with the contractors involved in the construction works of the agrologistics center and, according to the program, reviewed the progress of the completed works and the construction plan of the facility. The Mission also provided useful recommendations to ensure the high-quality and timely construction of the facility in accordance with international standards.
It should be noted that, in order to increase agricultural production, processing, storage, packaging, and prevention of post-harvest losses, as well as to ensure the supply of domestic markets and promote exports, five agrologistics centers are being constructed across the country by the State Institution “Agriculture Entrepreneurship Development” within the framework of the project “Strengthening Resilience of the Agriculture Sector Project,” with the support of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The agrologistics center in J. Balkhi district, being constructed under the framework of this project with modern design standards, will have the capacity to process, package, and store up to 1,200 tons of agricultural products and will significantly facilitate the work of farmers.
The construction of this major facility, including auxiliary infrastructure, is planned on an area of two hectares, and the works in this direction are progressing steadily.
According to the project design, the facility will consist of six separate cold storage units, each with a capacity of 200 tons of agricultural products, a large reception hall for agricultural produce, processing lines, sorting, packaging, labeling facilities, as well as a separate laboratory for determining product composition and other operational premises designed in accordance with international market requirements.
It is also worth noting that construction works on a similar agrologistics center are currently progressing actively in the Free Economic Zone of Sughd Region.
