The social and environmental specialists of the State Institution “Agriculture Entrepreneurship Development”, together with sector specialists and responsible persons, within the framework of the project “Strengthening Resilience of the Agriculture Sector Project.”, visited the planned work sites in the districts and cities of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), where they conducted an initial environmental and social assessment and held public meetings.
The team visited the sites for the reconstruction of the Dodikhudo and Temur irrigation canals in the Shohtemur rural jamoat of Khorog city, the reconstruction of water pipelines in the rural jamoats of A. Zamirov, Dasht, and Qozideh of Ishkashim district, as well as the Gadoali, Navbur, and Bijur irrigation canal in Roshtqala district, and held working meetings with responsible officials for the purpose of conducting the initial environmental and social assessment.
In addition, a public meeting was held at the Pamir Agricultural Research Center of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Tajikistan with sector specialists and contractors involved in the construction works. Detailed information was provided regarding the implementation of the environmental management plan, taking into account the opinions, comments, and proposals of stakeholders, the results of the environmental impact assessment, compliance with the requirements of the World Bank’s social and environmental standards, observance of hygiene and sanitary regulations, safety procedures, compliance with the applicable legal norms of the Republic of Tajikistan, and the mechanism for reviewing complaints and requests.
