Water is the source of life for all living beings, bringing vitality, beauty, fertility, and prosperity to the world.
Each year, the demand for both safe drinking water and irrigation water continues to increase across the Republic of Tajikistan. In response, the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan consistently undertakes the necessary measures to improve access to water resources for the population and the agricultural sector.
This year, with the support of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the State Institution “Agriculture Entrepreneurship Development,” within the framework of the Strengthening Resilience of the Agriculture Sector Project, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Agency for Land Reclamation and Irrigation under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, and local executive authorities, has been implementing measures to provide agricultural research institutions and vulnerable farming households with access to irrigation water. To date, several vertical water-supply wells have been constructed and commissioned in different regions of the country.
During the current week, the Institution’s social and environmental specialists visited several farms in Sughd Region that are in need of irrigation water, including the Ravshanbek and Mavlonqulbobo farms in Shahriston District, the Verkani Sanginzot and Muhammadrofe farms in Zafarobod District, the Navohin and Hoji Mullo Umar farms in the Obburdon Rural Jamoat of Mastchoh District, as well as the Mu’minsarkor and Abdukholiq Rahimov farms in Bobojon Ghafurov District. During the visits, working meetings were held with farm managers and contractors responsible for the implementation of the works.
Construction activities at the water-supply facilities are progressing in accordance with the required quality standards. At most of the sites, well-drilling activities have been fully completed and the facilities have already been put into operation.
The specialists provided practical recommendations to ensure the timely and high-quality completion of the remaining water-supply infrastructure, in full compliance with social and environmental standards, occupational health and safety requirements, sanitary regulations, and the project’s grievance redress mechanism.
The farm managers expressed their appreciation for the Government’s continued support and for the provision of irrigation water to their agricultural lands. They also noted that, through dedicated efforts during the current agricultural season, they aim to further increase crop productivity, contribute to strengthening the country’s food security, and supply domestic markets with high-quality locally produced agricultural products.
