On April 9–10, a regular meeting of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Agrarian Policy, Natural Resources, and Ecology was held in Yerevan, Republic of Armenia. Rustam Latifzoda, Chairman of the Committee of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan on Agrarian Issues, Water and Land Resources, took part in the meeting.
The meeting was attended by parliamentarians from all member states —Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Russian Federation, and Uzbekistan — as well as representatives of the IPA CIS Secretariat, its other structures, institutions, and international experts.
The final draft of the Model Land Code, in the development and discussion of which the Tajik side actively participated, was reviewed during the meeting. The draft of the Model Code was approved by the Commission and recommended for submission to the next plenary session of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member States.
Additionally, the Commission reviewed the issue of establishing an agreed-upon mechanism and coordinating the actions of CIS Member States in mitigating radiation and environmental threats associated with the nuclear legacy sites of the former USSR.
The importance of this issue for our country was particularly emphasized, noting that several radiation waste sites are located in Tajikistan. Specific measures are being taken by Tajikistan to eliminate the radiation and environmental hazards posed by these wastes. Cooperation between the parties, especially with Rosatom and the IAEA, was assessed as vital.
