On 21 August 2026, a consultative meeting was held in Dushanbe to discuss the Roadmap for implementing the Global Gender Action Plan for Biodiversity. The meeting was attended and addressed by Mr. Loik Rahmonzoda, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, and Ms. Jahono Odinozoda, Deputy Chairwoman of the Committee on Women and Family Affairs under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan. The meeting focused on integrating gender approaches into national policies and practical activities related to biodiversity conservation.
Representatives of government institutions, civil society organizations, the private sector, development partners, and independent experts participated in the event. Particular attention was paid to the development of the Roadmap for implementing the Global Gender Action Plan for Biodiversity in Tajikistan.
The guiding document was developed within the framework of the global initiative “Accelerating Systemic Change for Gender Equality and Biodiversity through National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans.” A separate area of discussion focused on gender indicators related to the updated targets of Tajikistan’s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan through 2040.
The meeting was given particular importance by the planned consideration and signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Committee on Women and Family Affairs and the Committee for Environmental Protection. The document is expected to strengthen institutional cooperation between the two bodies and provide a basis for regular and systematic joint efforts to integrate gender equality and biodiversity conservation issues.
In the next stages, the National Gender Group will play an important role as an intersectoral coordination platform, facilitating information exchange and supporting the implementation of the Roadmap and the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan. This approach will enable government institutions, civil society organizations, experts, and partners to work together toward common objectives and concrete results.
As a result, it is expected that agreed proposals for improving the Roadmap will be developed, preliminary gender indicators for national biodiversity targets will be identified, and a foundation will be established for further strengthening institutional cooperation.
