We would like to recall that from 29 June to 2 July 2026, the 45th meeting of the Board of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) was held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The meeting brought together the Fund’s leadership and Board members, representatives of international financial institutions, and climate experts. During the session, participants discussed key issues related to the Fund’s operations and approved a number of new projects aimed at addressing the adverse impacts of climate change worldwide.
A significant achievement for the Republic of Tajikistan was the approval of two major projects with a total value of USD 190 million, including USD 62 million in grant financing provided by the Green Climate Fund.
The first project, valued at USD 30 million, is designed to support 14 cities and districts across the country by strengthening the resilience of vulnerable communities. The project includes the introduction of water-efficient technologies and the establishment of a fund to promote the development of fruit orchards.
The second project focuses on the rehabilitation of drinking water supply and wastewater systems in the cities of Rogun, Danghara, and Khujand, as well as the modernization of irrigation infrastructure. The project will be implemented through a combination of Green Climate Fund grant financing and a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
Overall, during the Board meeting in Dushanbe, 11 projects for 10 developing countries-including Indonesia, Nepal, Syria, the Central African Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, Togo, Fiji, Laos, Vietnam, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan—were approved, with a total value of USD 700 million. Of this amount, USD 369 million will be financed directly by the Green Climate Fund.
Hosting this important meeting in Dushanbe marks a significant step toward improving people’s living conditions, attracting grant financing, expanding access to clean drinking water, and strengthening environmental protection efforts in Tajikistan.
It should also be noted that the Green Climate Fund’s overall portfolio of projects supporting developing countries currently amounts to USD 20.1 billion.
As a result of the Republic of Tajikistan’s cooperation with this prestigious international fund, nine projects with a combined value of USD 173.5 million are currently under implementation. These initiatives focus on environmental protection, sustainable agriculture, energy development, modernization of water supply infrastructure, improvement of hydrometeorological services, and enhancing the resilience of mountain communities to natural hazards and the impacts of climate change.
