On November 7, in Belém, Brazil, Bahodur Sheralizoda, Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, delivered an official statement on behalf of the Republic of Tajikistan at the Leaders’ Summit within the framework of the 30th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-30).
In his address, the Chairman reminded the international community about Tajikistan’s key initiative, put forward under the leadership of the Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, H.E. Emomali Rahmon — the convening of the first-ever High-Level International Conference on the Preservation of Glaciers. This event, held in Dushanbe from May 29 to 31 of the current year, served as a platform for achieving a historic consensus on the importance of glacier preservation and finding solutions to the global problem of their melting.
Bahodur Sheralizoda emphasized that Tajikistan has become a pioneer in bringing this critical issue to such a high level of the international agenda.
Despite the country’s minimal contribution to global climate change, the Chairman reaffirmed Tajikistan’s unwavering commitment to fulfilling its obligations under the Paris Agreement and to continuing efforts toward implementing initiatives on glacier preservation and climate resilience. He also informed participants about the progress in implementing the State Program for Greening the Republic of Tajikistan until 2040.
