On September 29–30, 2026, the International Conference on “Neighbors for Peace: Regional Cooperation on Afghanistan” was held in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, where deputy of the Majlisi Namoyandagon and member of the Committee on Agrarian Issues, Water and Land Resources, Bakhtiyor Ahmadzoda, participated and delivered remarks.
It was noted that the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is an integral part of the regional space, and that peace, stability and sustainable development in the country are directly linked to the security and well-being of neighboring states and the region as a whole.
Mr. Ahmadzoda emphasized that sustainable peace cannot be ensured through security measures alone. He noted that it also requires economic development, the expansion of trade, the creation of jobs, the development of education, infrastructure and transport links, as well as improving the well-being of the population.
He noted that, by virtue of its geographical position, the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan can play an important role in strengthening regional connectivity between Central Asia and South Asia. The implementation of transport, energy, trade and infrastructure projects serves the long-term interests of all countries in the region and can contribute to creating additional conditions for economic development and strengthening mutual trust. Mr. Ahmadzoda emphasized that peace and stability are of particular importance to the Republic of Tajikistan. Drawing on its historical experience, Tajikistan has consistently advocated the peaceful, political and diplomatic resolution of conflicts, the development of a culture of dialogue and the strengthening of mutual trust. He stated that it is in this context that the initiative of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, to declare the “Decade of Strengthening Peace for Future Generations” should be viewed. The Head of State presented this initiative at the United Nations and emphasized the need to unite the efforts of the international community for the sake of peace, security, stability and sustainable development. According to Mr. Ahmadzoda, the content and objectives of this initiative are particularly aligned with the theme of the conference. He emphasized that peace should not be viewed merely as the absence of conflict. Peace, above all, means creating conditions in which states and peoples can develop, cooperate and build their future on the basis of mutual respect, trust and responsibility toward future generations. Mr. Ahmadzoda further emphasized that parliaments have an important role to play in this process. He noted that parliamentary diplomacy complements traditional mechanisms of interstate relations, providing additional opportunities for an open exchange of views, strengthening mutual understanding and finding common ground.
