Today, Idizoda Faizali, Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan met with Head of the delegation of the Parliament of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Shahidul Islam.
Idizoda Faizali noted that Tajikistan attaches great importance to the development of relations with Bangladesh, particularly in the social and cultural spheres, and considers it important to strengthen cooperation between the state institutions of the two countries, including between their parliaments, within the framework of the activities of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, of which both countries are members.
“We are convinced that parliaments are the highest representative and legislative bodies that can serve as a platform for dialogue, exchange of experience and strengthening trust between states. In order to strengthen interparliamentary relations and parliamentary diplomacy, we have established friendship and cooperation groups with more than 70 parliaments around the world. In this regard, one of the issues I would like to focus on today is the establishment of an interparliamentary friendship group between the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Parliament of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh,” said Idizoda Faizali.
According to him, the friendship and cooperation group could create favorable conditions for holding mutual meetings, developing dialogue, exchanging legislative experience, organizing reciprocal parliamentary visits, strengthening ties between relevant committees, as well as discussing issues of mutual interest.
According to the data presented, the volume of trade turnover between Tajikistan and Bangladesh amounted to USD 106 million last year.
Idizoda Faizali also spoke in favor of developing ties between higher education institutions of Tajikistan and Bangladesh, exchanging students, teachers, scholars and researchers, as well as implementing joint scientific and educational programs.
Particular attention was paid to coordinating the positions of the parliaments of the two countries within interparliamentary organizations, including on issues related to sustainable development, climate change, the rational use of water resources, environmental protection and other global issues.
“We are confident that today’s meeting will be another important step towards strengthening friendship and cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries,” Idizoda Faizali said in conclusion.
