On August 25, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan hosted a virtual International Conference entitled “Tajikistan and 35 Years of Independence: Experience in Peacebuilding, a Multi-Vector Foreign Policy and Sustainable Development”, dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the State Independence of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The conference brought together high-ranking representatives of the Government and Parliament of the Republic of Tajikistan, heads of ministries and state institutions, members of the diplomatic corps, as well as political figures, veterans of the diplomatic service, and representatives of Tajikistan’s diplomatic missions abroad.
In her opening remarks, Deputy Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan, Mavsuma Muini, emphasized that the role of the Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, as the architect of the foreign policy of independent Tajikistan has acquired its full and genuine significance.
She noted that today, Tajikistan’s diplomacy is no longer confined to addressing regional issues. Whereas in the early years of independence the country’s primary priorities were peace, security, and the restoration and consolidation of statehood, today Tajikistan has evolved into a country that actively places issues of global importance on the international agenda.
The most prominent example of this transformation is Tajikistan’s global initiatives in the field of water. From the International Year of Fresh Water to the International Decade for Action “Water for Life,” and from the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development” to the High-Level International Conferences on Water held in Dushanbe, these initiatives demonstrate how Tajikistan has successfully transformed an issue rooted in its own geographical context into a matter of global significance for all humanity.
The issue of glacier preservation has now become part of this important agenda. Tajikistan’s international initiatives in this area, together with the organization of global events in Dushanbe, demonstrate that the country has progressed from the position of a recipient of decisions to that of an initiator and agenda-setter in the international arena.
Mavsuma Muini further emphasized that, in today’s world, parliaments have become one of the most important platforms for dialogue, confidence-building, and the strengthening of interstate relations. It is precisely this role that has made parliamentary diplomacy an important instrument of modern foreign policy.
The conference subsequently continued with thematic sessions entitled and The sessions provided an opportunity to analyze and discuss the achievements of the Republic of Tajikistan over the 35 years of state independence, as well as the prospects for the country’s further development and progress.
More than 200 participants took part in the international conference, while its proceedings were covered by 50 domestic and international media outlets.
