Today, the Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan, Faizali Idizoda, met with the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Martin Chungong.
Faizali Idizoda noted that the Majlisi Namoyandagon highly values the activities of the Inter-Parliamentary Union as one of the most important platforms for international dialogue among the world's parliaments.
The Republic of Tajikistan, under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan - Leader of the Nation, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, considers issues related to water, climate, and sustainable development to be among the priority areas of its international policy. The global initiatives of the Leader of the Nation in the fields of water resources, glacier preservation, and climate change, which have been supported by the international community and the United Nations, have provided a favorable foundation for strengthening international cooperation in resolving these problems.
"We are pleased that cooperation between Tajikistan and the Inter-Parliamentary Union is steadily expanding, providing a favorable basis for constructive inter-parliamentary dialogue at the regional and international levels," Mr. Idizoda said.
The Majlisi Namoyandagon has established an inter-parliamentary friendship and cooperation group with the Inter-Parliamentary Union and considers it necessary to expand activities in this direction.
Tajikistan is a mountainous country. Today, the impact of climate change on the countries of the world, especially on mountainous regions, is acutely felt. Glacier melting, depletion of water resources, droughts, natural disasters, and problems related to food security urge the international community to further strengthen international cooperation.
"In this process, we consider the role of parliaments in strengthening water-related parliamentary diplomacy to be crucial. Parliaments can make an effective contribution by improving legal frameworks, strengthening parliamentary oversight, and supporting government policies aimed at environmental protection and sustainable development," the Chairman emphasized.
In conclusion, Faizali Idizoda stated that the Majlisi Namoyandagon is ready to expand its cooperation with the Union in various fields, including climate issues, sustainable development, gender equality, youth engagement in parliamentary activities, and the digitalization of legislative work.
Following the meeting, the guests toured the session halls and offices of the members of parliament, leaving with positive impressions.
