Today, the Chairman of the Committee of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan on Science, Education, Culture, and Youth Policy, Barno Saidvalizoda, spoke at a side event of the Fourth International High-Level Conference on the International Decade for Action: “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018–2028” on the topic: “Female Parliamentarians of Central Asia: Leadership in Advancing the Water Agenda for Sustainable Development.”
She noted that, on the initiative of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Founder of Peace and National Unity and Leader of the Nation, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, the United Nations General Assembly has adopted more than ten resolutions on water-related issues.
It is a matter of pride that the city of Dushanbe has become an important international platform for discussing water issues. International high-level conferences are regularly held here, contributing to the strengthening of inter-parliamentary cooperation and the promotion of water diplomacy.
The role of women in water resource management and in ensuring adequate sanitation and hygiene conditions is increasingly being recognized at all levels. Integrating gender considerations is one of the most vital elements in ensuring the sustainable use and protection of global water resources, as well as safeguarding public health and human dignity through the provision of adequate sanitation and hygiene conditions.
The growing scarcity of water resources, which is becoming more acute year by year, urges the global community to take immediate measures to ensure access to clean drinking water, food security, and energy security. This situation is further aggravated by climate-related phenomena, including droughts and floods, which have tragic consequences for global food security. Women and girls suffer the most in this process.
“I am confident that the outcomes of our joint work will contribute to significant progress toward achieving international water-related goals and, overall, sustainable development,” Barno Saidvalizoda concluded.
