As the year 2025 draws to a close, we anticipate the arrival of the new Gregorian year, 2026. May it bring blessings and auspiciousness, guiding us towards creativity and constructive endeavors. In these joyful moments of transition, as we bid farewell to the old year, we reflect on our successes and shortcomings over the past year and set forth good plans and intentions for the new one.
As His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, the Leader of the Nation and President of the Republic of Tajikistan, has noted, the year 2025 proved to be another historic year for the noble people of Tajikistan and the sovereign independent state of the Tajiks, marked by significant achievements and important events.
In March 2025, elections to the Majlisi Namoyandagon, local councils of people’s deputies, and the Majlisi Milli of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan – major political events – were held in a free and transparent manner at a high level. Another historic event was the complete resolution of border issues that had remained unsettled for more than a century between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Kyrgyz Republic through the signing of an agreement on the delimitation of the state border. Additionally, an agreement between the Republic of Tajikistan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and the Republic of Uzbekistan on the junction point of their state borders, as well as the Khujand Declaration on eternal friendship, were signed by the heads of state, creating a solid legal foundation for regional development and the continuation of mutually beneficial cooperation.
Indeed, the outgoing year 2025 will take a worthy place in the chronicle of each of our lives as a year of constructive development and major plans. It brought fundamental changes and notable progress to the lives of the Tajik people and became a year of new initiatives by our Head of State, the Founder of Peace and National Unity and Leader of the Nation, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, aimed at ensuring lasting peace and stability, social calm and well-being, and preventing natural hazards and addressing water and climate challenges.
In 2025, within the framework of its global initiatives, the Republic of Tajikistan hosted the first high-level International Conference on Glacier Protection in support of the United Nations resolution on the “International Year of Glacier Preservation.”
On 12 December of this year, at the 7th session of the United Nations Environment Assembly, at the initiative of Tajikistan, a resolution entitled “Protection of Glaciers and the Cryosphere, Especially in Mountain Regions” was adopted.
Through another initiative of our country, a special resolution of the United Nations General Assembly entitled “The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Creating New Opportunities for Sustainable Development in Central Asia” was adopted.
In addition, the inclusion of the cultural heritage monuments of Ancient Khuttal in the UNESCO World Heritage List at the 47th session of the World Heritage Committee in Paris testifies to the international recognition of Tajikistan’s initiatives.
It is a matter of pride that on December 12th of this year, at Tajikistan’s initiative, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring 2027 the “International Year of Legal Awareness.”
In 2025, the proud people of Tajikistan took firm steps toward achieving the country's strategic goals. The grand celebration of Nowruz, the 28th anniversary of National Unity, the 34th anniversary of State Independence, and the 31st anniversary of the Constitution, along with hundreds of other historical and cultural events that enriched citizens with spiritual nourishment, were among the memorable events of the past year.
