Ahmadzoda Bakhtiyor, deputy of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan and a member of the Committee on Agrarian Issues, Water and Land Resources, delivered a speech at the 3rd Meeting of the Chairpersons of the Parliaments of the Central Asian States and the Republic of Korea, held on 15–17 December in Tashkent, Republic of Uzbekistan, on the topic “Sustainable Development and Environmental Protection: The Role of Parliaments in Ensuring the Implementation of Environmental Initiatives.”
Mr. Bakhtiyor Ahmadzoda emphasized that today’s dialogue contributes to strengthening regional cooperation, promoting the exchange of experience, and identifying joint approaches to addressing environmental challenges that affect all countries in the region.
He noted that sustainable development remains one of the key global priorities for the Central Asian states, as environmental risks in the region are closely linked to economic development and the utilization of natural resources.
The Parliament of the Republic of Tajikistan places particular emphasis on reinforcing the legal framework for sustainable development through the adoption of legislation, approval of strategic programs, and oversight of their implementation.
The experience of the Republic of Tajikistan demonstrates that sustainable development is achievable only through systematic work, ranging from legislative adoption to the practical implementation of environmental programs and active international cooperation. In this context, a number of intergovernmental agreements on cooperation have been concluded between our countries, and it is essential to make effective use of this legal framework.
He expressed confidence that the joint efforts of parliaments and active participation can serve as a strong factor in strengthening environmental security across the region.
