From December 15 to 17, in the city of Tashkent, the Republic of Uzbekistan, the third meeting of the Speakers of the Parliaments of the Central Asian states and the Republic of Korea was held under the theme “Cooperation for Human Dignity, Social Justice, and Environmental Protection.” Aziz Giyozoda, Deputy Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan, took part in the meeting and delivered a speech.
During this visit, Aziz Giyozoda was accompanied by Munavvar Abdusalomzoda, a member of the Committee of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan on Social Issues, Family, and Health Protection, and Bakhtiyor Ahmadzoda, a member of the Committee on Agrarian Issues, Water and Land Resources.
Aziz Giyozoda noted that the meetings of the Speakers of the parliaments of the Central Asian states and the Republic of Korea are a vivid example of effective parliamentary diplomacy, contributing to the convergence of positions, exchange of experience, and the formation of a shared cooperation agenda.
Taking into account its vast water and hydropower resources, the Republic of Tajikistan consistently promotes the water and climate agenda at the international level. At the initiative of the Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018–2028” was proclaimed, which is considered one of the key global initiatives of the Head of State. This initiative is aimed at the rational use of water resources and ensuring access to drinking water at national, regional, and global levels.
Inter-parliamentary cooperation in this area enables countries to exchange experience in combating discrimination, improving migration policy, and protecting the rights of children, women, persons with disabilities, and socially vulnerable groups.
The modern world requires the active use of parliamentary diplomacy mechanisms as an important complement to interstate relations. Parliaments possess unique potential to strengthen trust, promote dialogue, and coordinate long-term development strategies. “I am confident that the results of today’s dialogue will make a valuable contribution to strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation and promoting the values of human dignity, social justice, and environmental responsibility,” Aziz Giyozoda said in conclusion.
Based on the issues discussed, a Joint Declaration was adopted.
