Today, Mavsuma Muini held a meeting with the Special Representative of the OSCE/Finland Chairperson-in-Office on Gender Issues and Member of the Parliament of Finland, Ms. Saara-Sofia Sirén.
During the meeting, Mavsuma Muini underscored that the Republic of Tajikistan maintains active and constructive cooperation with the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). She noted that the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe supports a network of 14 women’s resource centers, which provide legal and psychological assistance, as well as offer training programmes aimed at fostering entrepreneurship and strengthening women’s economic independence.
It was highlighted that the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Finland enjoy friendly and productive relations. In this context, a friendship and inter-parliamentary cooperation group between the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Parliament of Finland has been established. Members of the Majlisi Namoyandagon actively participate in initiatives undertaken within the framework of the OSCE.
Mavsuma Muini further emphasized that the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan attaches particular importance to enhancing women’s participation in legislative processes. At present, women constitute nearly 29 percent of the Majlisi Namoyandagon — the highest indicator in the Central Asian region — reflecting the country’s tangible progress in promoting women’s engagement in decision-making.
Attention was also drawn to the fact that the prevention of gender-based violence represents one of the national priorities of Tajikistan. In this regard, strengthening the network of support centers, improving access to legal protection, and enhancing the qualifications of specialists working in the field of women’s protection and support play an essential role.
The growing participation of women in economic activity and social development was also noted. Support for women entrepreneurs, the promotion of digital skills, access to vocational training, and expanded opportunities in the labor market contribute significantly to women’s increased role in the national economy.
It was expressed with confidence that further expanding cooperation with the Parliament of Finland and the OSCE will contribute to the effective implementation of international recommendations, facilitate the exchange of best practices, and support the development of practical mechanisms aimed at empowering women.
