Today, under the chairmanship of Aziz Ghiyozoda, Deputy Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan, a roundtable was held on the topic “Parliament and the Circular Economy in Tajikistan: Legal Foundations for the Transition to Green Development.” The roundtable was organized at the initiative of the Ecology Commission of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan.
It was noted that we are living in the context of a triple environmental crisis – climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental pollution. For the Republic of Tajikistan, recognized as a country highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, resilience to such environmental crises has become a strategic priority.
The Founder of National Unity - Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honourable Emomali Rahmon, during a meeting with employees of environmental protection agencies on September 17th of this year, instructed the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, in cooperation with relevant ministries and agencies, to develop and submit to the Government the “National Waste Management Strategy for the period up to 2035.”
Population growth, industrial development, construction expansion, and the increase in the number of vehicles have led to a rapid rise in waste volume.
It should be noted that the instructions and directives of the Head of State logically represent a continuation of our country's strategic course towards transitioning to a green development model and a circular economy.
The development of the green economy and the circular economy in the Republic of Tajikistan has been identified as one of the key directions of the country's economic and environmental policy, aimed at achieving sustainable development and reducing the negative impact of the economy on the environment.
The meeting was attended by Ms Karine Olislagers, Attachée, Programme Manager for Cooperation at the Delegation of the European Union to Tajikistan, as well as a group of parliamentarians and other official representatives who participated and shared their views.
Ms. Zinaida Fadeeva, Team Leader of the SWITCH-Asia project, also participated virtually and delivered a speech.
