On September 3, 2026, a ceremonial meeting dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the State Independence of the Republic of Tajikistan was held at the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan. The meeting was attended and addressed by the Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, Bahodur Sheralizoda, Academician Abdujabor Rahmonzoda, and Professor Makhfirat Khidirzoda.
It was noted that, having traversed a complex and challenging path of state-building over the past 35 years, Tajikistan can confidently state today that it has overcome important stages in the development of national statehood and has become a reliable country that actively promotes initiatives at both the regional and international levels.
In this process, the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, has played an exceptionally important role in strengthening statehood, restoring peace and national unity, and creating the foundations for the country's sustainable development.
It was precisely the achievement of State Independence that created favorable conditions for the adoption, on the initiative of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and legislative bodies, of 23 sector-specific laws and more than 100 sector-specific regulatory and legal acts in the field of environmental protection and the rational use of natural resources.
It was emphasized that the protection of glaciers and the cryosphere occupies an important place in Tajikistan's environmental policy. Given the impact of climate change, particular importance is attached to strengthening scientific research and encouraging young people to study the natural sciences. Tajikistan is also promoting important initiatives at the international level aimed at protecting glaciers and the cryosphere.
It is precisely thanks to State Independence that 14 resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly on water and climate issues have been adopted, laying the foundation for the implementation of specific objectives, including the “2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.”
In accordance with the instructions and directives of the Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, and with the aim of advancing the “Global Glacier Agenda” and further strengthening the country's initiatives in the field of water and climate, the Committee, as the authorized state body in this sector, carried out relevant work within the framework of cooperation with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) on the protection of glaciers and the cryosphere. As a result, on December 12, 2025, during the seventh session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7), held in Nairobi, Republic of Kenya, a resolution entitled “Protection of Glaciers and the Cryosphere, Especially in Mountainous Regions” was adopted.
As part of the event, the results of the national competition “Cryosphere and Climate Change: Threats and Adaptation Pathways” were summarized. The winners and active participants of the competition were awarded diplomas, certificates of appreciation, and commemorative gifts. The competition contributed to raising environmental awareness, developing scientific thinking, and engaging the younger generation more actively in the study of important issues related to the environment, the cryosphere, and climate change.
In addition, in connection with the 35th anniversary of the State Independence of the Republic of Tajikistan, a number of employees were awarded departmental honors for their significant contribution and active work in the field of environmental protection, implementation of state environmental policy, and nature conservation.
