From 18 to 20 July, abnormally hot weather will persist across the country. Daytime air temperatures are expected to reach: +42 to +47°C in lowland areas; +35 to +40°C in foothill and mountainous areas, +40 to +42°C in the Darvoz District of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).
In addition, due to the high temperatures, there is a risk of glacial mudflows (glacial-origin flash floods) in the foothill and mountainous districts under republican jurisdiction, the Sughd Region, and the western districts of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region.
The hot weather is also expected to cause rising water levels in the Panj, Zeravshan, and Vakhsh river basins.
On 21-22 July, in the cities and districts of the Khatlon Region, the districts under republican jurisdiction, and the city of Dushanbe, meteorological conditions (dust transported into the country from the southwest and south) are expected to worsen air quality. Increased concentrations of suspended particulate matter (dust), including PM10 and PM2.5, are forecast.
Residents are advised to take appropriate precautions during this period of adverse weather conditions.
