On July 9, 2026, the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan held a press conference to discuss the sector's performance in the first half of 2026.
It was noted that the Committee, acting within the framework of state environmental policy, implementing national programs, strengthening international cooperation, and raising environmental awareness among the population, achieved significant results during the reporting period. Specifically, at the Committee's suggestion, four government resolutions and three sectoral orders were adopted.
It was emphasized that one of the Committee's priority areas of activity is adaptation to climate change and the implementation of strategic documents. In this context, the Interdepartmental Working Group "Environmental Protection, Emergencies, and Climate Change" was established to coordinate the activities of ministries and agencies within the framework of the National Development Strategy of the Republic of Tajikistan until 2030.
In the first six months of this year, 30 avalanche hazard research expeditions and 24 research projects to determine snow cover in the republic's river basins were conducted in the field of glacier research and protection.
As part of the implementation of the State Environmental Program for 2023–2028, 163 solar-powered CCTV cameras were installed in cities and districts of the republic to improve waste management. These cameras operate online and help prevent violations.
One of the sector's significant achievements was exceeding the tree planting plan. According to data, of the planned 3,622,586 seedlings, 3,774,939 had been planted by May 31 of this year, representing 104% of the annual plan.
To raise environmental awareness among the population, 1,037 "Coastal Cleanup" campaigns, 1,471 "Local Area Cleanup" campaigns, and 1,260 "Highway Cleanup" campaigns were conducted across the country, engaging more than 262,000 citizens.
Significant work has also been done in the area of digitalization. Specifically, since March of this year, the EcoDoc electronic document management program has been in use, making the exchange of documents and reports entirely electronic.
