The 45th meeting of the Board of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) will be held in Dushanbe from 25 June to 2 July 2026. On this occasion, a correspondent of NIAT "Khovar" spoke with Turaqul Murodzoda, Head of the National Designated Authority (NDA) for cooperation with the Green Climate Fund in the Republic of Tajikistan.
Turaqul Murodzoda noted that the 45th GCF Board Meeting will contribute to further strengthening international cooperation on climate action, expanding partnerships with international financial institutions, and attracting additional investments for the implementation of national priority programmes and projects aimed at sustainable development, environmental protection, and climate change adaptation.
"The Green Climate Fund (GCF) is the world's largest international climate finance mechanism, supporting both climate change mitigation and adaptation measures," he said.
The 45th GCF Board Meeting is expected to bring together approximately 400 participants in Dushanbe, including Board members, the Fund's management and staff, representatives of international and regional organizations, accredited entities, the private sector, and development partners.
In accordance with the Green Climate Fund's rules and procedures, the Board convenes three times each year. Two meetings are traditionally held at the Fund's headquarters in Incheon, Republic of Korea, while one meeting is organized in a member country representing the respective regional constituency. The 45th Board Meeting in the Republic of Tajikistan will be the first GCF Board meeting ever hosted in Central Asia.
Turaqul Murodzoda emphasized that hosting the 45th GCF Board Meeting in Dushanbe reflects the Republic of Tajikistan's consistent and systematic efforts to expand access to international climate finance, including through direct access mechanisms.
Thanks to the continued support of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, not only has the accreditation of national institutions to access direct GCF financing been secured, but a transparent national system for developing climate projects has also been significantly strengthened. The Green Climate Fund's decision to hold its Board meeting in Central Asia for the first time and specifically in Dushanbe represents important recognition of Tajikistan's role in advancing the global climate agenda.
The meeting is expected to consider key issues related to the operations of the Green Climate Fund, including the approval of new climate projects and programmes, the review of accreditation applications from international, regional, and national organizations, climate finance mobilization, and other strategic matters related to the implementation of the Paris Agreement and support for developing countries in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
"For Tajikistan, particular importance is attached to the consideration of several projects aimed at increasing the resilience of the country's most vulnerable communities to the adverse impacts of climate change, improving drinking water supply systems and irrigation infrastructure, and strengthening national capacity for climate change adaptation and climate risk management," Turaqul Murodzoda stated.
