On June 5, 2026, a ceremonial event dedicated to World Environment Day was held in the conference hall of the central office of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.
At the beginning of the event, Deputy Chairman of the Committee, Loiq Rahmonzoda, read out the Chairman’s congratulatory message and warmly congratulated the employees of the sector on their professional holiday.
In his congratulatory remarks, it was emphasized that since the first days of independence, the Republic of Tajikistan has been recognized as an initiator and leader in proposing and promoting global environmental issues. Through its international initiatives in the fields of water and climate, Tajikistan has secured a worthy position on the global stage.
It was also noted that the city of Dushanbe, as a center for hosting important national, regional, and international events, particularly on water and climate issues, plays a significant role in implementing the constructive policies of the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honorable Emomali Rahmon. These initiatives contribute to improving environmental conditions and ensuring a better quality of life for people around the world.
During the event, several employees of the sector delivered congratulatory speeches and expressed their gratitude to the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan for its support and for creating favorable conditions that enable environmental protection personnel to carry out their duties effectively.
Subsequently, in accordance with the Chairman’s decree, a group of active environmental protection professionals were awarded certificates of honor and letters of appreciation from the Committee in recognition of their valuable contributions to the development of the sector.
In addition, the winners of the nationwide competition organized by the Committee for Environmental Protection on the topic “The State of Tajikistan’s Glaciers under Climate Change Conditions,” which had been held among students of general secondary educational institutions across the country, were awarded certificates and cash prizes.
It should be noted that WorldEnvironmentDay was established in 1972 by a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly following the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment. Today, it serves as an important global platform for discussing environmental issues. The main objective of this observance is to raise environmental awareness among the population, draw public attention to environmental challenges, and strengthen humanity’s sense of responsibility toward nature.
During the years of independence, World Environment Day in the Republic of Tajikistan has been celebrated annually at a high level through various educational, awareness-raising, and outreach activities.
