In order to implement the directive of the Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan dated February 20, 2026, No. 13 “On conducting the planned population census of the markhor in 2026,” activities to monitor this rare species were carried out in several key natural regions of the country.
The population survey of the markhor was conducted by specialists of the Committee for Environmental Protection in cooperation with relevant scientific institutions of the republic and hunting enterprises.
Carrying out such activities in the habitats of rare animals is of great importance for determining the actual population status of the markhor, conserving biodiversity and developing further measures for the protection of this rare species.
The obtained results provide a solid basis for planning future conservation measures and the sustainable management of natural resources.
