This initiative was planned and implemented by the Main Department for Environmental Protection of the Sughd Region within the framework of the implementation of the State Comprehensive Program for the Development of Environmental Education and Public Awareness of the Republic of Tajikistan for 2021–2025. It was aimed at raising the level of environmental awareness and fostering a culture of responsible attitudes toward nature in society.
In cooperation with the Public Organization “Youth Group for Environmental Protection” and the Regional Department of Education, new environmental classes were introduced on a pilot basis in five preschool institutions in the cities and districts of Khujand, B. Gafurov, Istiqlol, Buston, and Guliston.
To conduct these environmental lessons, a special methodological guide — “Guide to Environmental Education in Preschool Institutions” — was developed in 2025 in cooperation with methodologists and specialists of the Regional Department of Education. This guide will further assist preschool teachers in organizing engaging, accessible, and modern learning activities.
Environmental classes provide children with the opportunity to learn about the environment and its protection through play, drawing, discussion, and creative activities. The prepared guide covers topics ranging from an introduction to the world of plants and animals, water and air, to seasons and elements of living and non-living nature.
The main goal of these activities is to ensure that children, from an early age, develop the following values and skills:
- love for nature;
- respectful and responsible attitudes toward the environment;
- rational use of water and other natural resources;
- preservation of cleanliness and beauty of the environment.
Before transitioning from preschool to general secondary education, the younger generation should possess a certain level of age-appropriate environmental knowledge. Achieving this goal can significantly increase the overall level of environmental awareness among the population in the future.
Human rational activity should be based on the ability to limit selfish desires, rely on knowledge as a guiding source, and refrain from actions and behavior driven by emotions.
Therefore, future generations of humanity must be environmentally literate.
