On the sidelines of the 30th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-30) in Belém, Brazil, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Hydrometeorology Agency of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Japanese company “ArkEdge Space Inc”.
This became an important step toward cooperation in capacity building, remote sensing of glaciers, monitoring climate change, greenhouse gases, and air quality areas that play a crucial role in strengthening climate resilience and scientific capacity.
In addition, during the event, the Director of the Hydrometeorology Agency of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, Abdullo Kurbonzoda, held a meeting with Kentaro Doi, Japan’s Deputy Minister for Global Environmental Affairs. The parties expressed their intention to promote joint scientific publications, participate in international conferences, and explore opportunities for attracting financing from international partners.
The signing of the Memorandum once again underscores Tajikistan’s commitment to strengthening climate science, expanding international cooperation, and developing innovative approaches to monitoring climate processes an especially important priority for a country with the largest glacier resources in Central Asia.
