Central Asian Countries Unite to Develop a Common Position Ahead of COP30
On October 31, 2025, the Regional Dialogue of Central Asian Countries was held in Dushanbe as part of preparations for the 30th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30). The event, held under the slogan “80 million people, 5 countries, 1 voice,” took place at Kokhi Navruz and brought together senior government officials, representatives of international organizations, and experts to develop a unified regional position.
COP30, which will take place in Belém, Brazil, marks a crucial turning point in global climate action — shifting the focus from planning to implementation. The summit will center on the launch of a five-year Global Action Program, based on the outcomes of the first Global Stocktake. For Central Asia, this represents a transition from commitments to concrete actions on updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs 3.0), adaptation, and resilience building.
In his address, Mr. Isfandiyor Shukurzoda, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, emphasized:
“Only through close regional cooperation can we effectively address such transboundary challenges as glacier melting and mobilize the necessary financing for green development.”
The agenda of the dialogue included three key thematic sessions:
“From Global Stocktake to NDC 3.0: Raising Ambition and Action”
“Glaciers and Mountain Ecosystems: A Regional Climate Priority for COP30”
“Showcasing Central Asia at COP30: Coordinating Our Voice – The Voice of Youth”
The event was organized by the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan with the support of the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) and international partners.
