On October 28-29, a National Conference on Biodiversity Conservation was held in Dushanbe. It brought together representatives of government, science, business, civil society, and international partners to coordinate approaches to updating the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) in line with global principles and regulations.
The conference was organized by the National Biodiversity and Biosafety Center of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, which is the national focal point for the Convention on Biological Diversity in Tajikistan. The meeting was supported by the UNDP in Tajikistan as part of the implementation of the national biodiversity targets update (GBF - EAS) initiative.

Mr. Rustam Latfizoda, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Environmental Protection Mr. Isfandiyor Shukurzoda, Deputy Minister of Finance Ms. Parvina Bakhromzoda and Vice President of the National Academy of Sciences Mr. Mirzorakhimzoda Akobir.
Conference program included issues of mainstreaming biodiversity into national and sectoral strategies, the role of NBSAPs as a policy mechanism and practical methodology for updating, and sustainable financing issues – from national cost assessment and subsidy reallocation to the BIOFIN instrument and private sector participation.
Having ratified the Convention on Biological Diversity and its protocols, Tajikistan has consistently developed political and institutional mechanisms for nature conservation, including the NBSAP.
