Indeed, human life, the development of agriculture, and environmental protection are impossible without water. However, not all water that appears clear is necessarily of good quality. Laboratory analysis is carried out to determine the actual quality of water.
I work as a laboratory technician in the land reclamation laboratory, specializing in water analysis. Our task is to determine the chemical composition of water and assess its suitability for irrigation and other uses.
In the laboratory, we determine the concentrations of bicarbonate (HCO₃⁻), chloride (Cl⁻), sulfate (SO₄²⁻), calcium (Ca²⁺), magnesium (Mg²⁺), and sodium (Na⁺) ions. Based on these indicators, the degree of mineralization and salinity of the water is assessed.
Why is this important? If water with a high salt content is used for irrigation, salts gradually accumulate in the soil, leading to soil salinization. As a result, crop yields decrease and the reclamation condition of agricultural land deteriorates. Therefore, every laboratory analysis is of great importance for protecting agricultural land and ensuring the efficient use of water resources.
The results of water and soil analyses enable farmers, agricultural producers, specialists, and sector professionals to choose appropriate methods of water use and take the necessary measures to improve the condition of the land.
Today, in the context of climate change and growing demand for water, our responsibility is becoming even greater. Protecting every drop of water and monitoring its quality is not only the responsibility of specialists but also a shared responsibility of each and every one of us.
Let us treat this invaluable gift of nature with care, protect our water resources, and use them wisely and sustainably. Water is the foundation of health, abundant harvests, and a bright future for our beloved homeland.
