What is soil erosion?
Erosion (from the Latin erosio — “wearing away” or “destruction”) refers to the degradation of the physical properties of soil. In other words, under the influence of anthropogenic factors, the fertile layer of soil is destroyed. Where does it go? It is transported over certain distances and washed into lakes, reservoirs, and seas. Land erosion leads to the destruction of habitats and food sources for plants and animals and negatively affects the biological balance of natural ecosystems.
As a result of erosion, agricultural crop yields decrease by 20–40%, while harvesting and further land cultivation using agricultural machinery also become more difficult.
