On 21 July, discussions on bilateral cooperation began with a one-on-one meeting between the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, and the President of Mongolia, His Excellency Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh. The talks then continued in an expanded format with the participation of the official delegations of both countries.
At the outset of the negotiations, President Emomali Rahmon expressed his sincere appreciation for the warm and gracious welcome, voicing confidence that “the outcomes of today’s meetings and negotiations will provide new momentum for the further development of mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation between our countries.”
The two sides welcomed the steady progress of the political dialogue between Tajikistan and Mongolia and underscored the particular importance of strengthening inter-parliamentary ties as an effective means of enhancing mutual political trust.
During the talks, special attention was devoted to priority areas of cooperation, including energy, construction and infrastructure development, agriculture—particularly livestock farming—and the export of high-quality, environmentally friendly fruit and vegetable products to Mongolia.
To further promote mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation, the parties proposed the establishment of joint working groups on energy, construction, and infrastructure development.
The discussions also identified manufacturing industries, particularly the light and food industries, as well as the mining and processing of mineral resources, as promising areas for future cooperation.
The importance of ensuring the regular work of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation was emphasized as an effective mechanism for coordinating the full range of bilateral relations and attracting investment.
The two Presidents noted that humanitarian cooperation remains one of the key pillars of relations between Tajikistan and Mongolia. In this regard, they welcomed the significance of holding Cultural Days in both countries on a reciprocal basis.
Another promising avenue for cooperation identified during the talks was the further expansion of direct partnerships between higher education institutions, research and academic organizations, think tanks, and other specialized institutions of the two countries.
The sides also highlighted the considerable potential for strengthening cooperation in the fields of tourism, youth policy, and sports.
President Emomali Rahmon expressed gratitude to the friendly nation of Mongolia for supporting Tajikistan’s initiative to proclaim 2027–2036 as the “Decade of Action for Strengthening Peace for Future Generations,” as well as for its support of Tajikistan’s other international initiatives, particularly those related to water and climate.
In this context, the importance of further enhancing cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the Group of Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) was particularly emphasized.
The two sides also held a constructive exchange of views on a range of other issues of mutual interest.
