Following the conclusion of the Forum, on 14 September a meeting was held with the Minister of the Korea Forest Service.
During the meeting, the parties discussed issues related to the further development of bilateral cooperation in the field of forestry, the use of modern technologies, forest restoration, and measures to counter the impacts of climate change.
It was emphasized that the application of digital technologies and up-to-date satellite data can play an important role in enhancing the efficiency of forest monitoring, identifying vulnerable areas, and planning forest restoration measures.
As a result of the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in digital forest restoration and climate initiatives was signed between the Forestry Agency under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Korea Forest Service.
The Memorandum envisages the expansion of cooperation in the areas of forest monitoring using digital technologies, satellite data and remote sensing methods, forest restoration, biodiversity conservation, management of forest-related disaster risks, and climate change adaptation.
The signing of this document represents an important step in strengthening cooperation between Tajikistan and the Republic of Korea in the forestry sector, creating a foundation for the adoption of advanced experience, the use of modern technologies, and the implementation of joint initiatives aimed at protecting and restoring forest ecosystems.
It should be noted that the Forum was organized at the initiative of the Korea Forest Service in cooperation with the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and the Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO), and was dedicated to addressing pressing issues in the forestry sector, including forest restoration, prevention and mitigation of climate change impacts, ecosystem protection, the use of modern technologies, and the strengthening of regional cooperation.
