On September 4-5, 2025, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan Nuriddinzoda Akhliddin Nuriddin took part in the Ninth Subregional Forum on Sustainable Development Goals, which was held in Almaty, Republic of Kazakhstan.
Nuriddinzoda A.N. took part in the Ninth North and Central Asian Multilateral Forum on the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), organized by UNESCAP jointly with the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The forum brought together representatives of government agencies, international organizations, academia, the private sector and civil society to discuss progress and challenges towards achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
In his opening speech, the Deputy Minister presented Tajikistan's experience in integrating the SDGs into national strategic documents - the National Development Strategy until 2030 and the Medium-Term Development Program for 2021-2025. It was noted that the country has already prepared two Voluntary National Reviews (VNR), as well as the first Voluntary Local Review (VLR) of the city of Dushanbe, which has become an example of successful localization of the SDGs at the capital level.
According to the SDG Index for 2023, Tajikistan has made significant progress on the goals in the field of combating climate change, sustainable consumption and production, access to clean energy and poverty reduction. In particular, the share of the population with access to safe drinking water has reached 73%, and to improved sanitation 64%.
Also, Nuriddinzoda A. N. made a report at the panel session on SDG 6 Clean Water and Sanitation. He emphasized that Tajikistan not only actively implements programs to modernize infrastructure and expand access to water and sanitation at the national and local levels, but is also a recognized leader in global water diplomacy. The Republic has initiated nine UN General Assembly resolutions on water issues and successfully co-organized the UN Water Conference in New York in 2023, which led to the launch of the Global Water Action Agenda.
The Forum also included an exchange of experience between countries in the region on preparing Voluntary National and Local Reviews, using digital platforms to monitor SDGs, and strengthening partnerships for sustainable development.
