Today, on April 7, 2026, a republican conference on the topic “The Role of Mass Media and Press Centers in Countering Terrorism and Extremism” was held at the building of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tajikistan.
In his speech, Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Tajikistan, People’s Poet of Tajikistan Safarzoda D.Sh., noted that the conference was held within the framework of implementing the state policy of the Republic of Tajikistan in the field of countering terrorism and extremism, as well as for the implementation of relevant legal and regulatory acts, including the Law of the Republic of Tajikistan “On Countering Terrorism”, the Law of the Republic of Tajikistan “On Countering Extremism”, and other state programs and strategies.
It was emphasized that under the leadership of the Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, ensuring security, social stability, and combating terrorism and extremism have become among the priority areas of state policy. In his speeches and addresses, the Leader of the Nation consistently highlights the importance of strengthening awareness-raising efforts, improving legal awareness, and increasing the responsibility of citizens, especially young people, in preventing negative phenomena.
At the same time, Tajikistan continues implementing long-term objectives within the framework of the Strategy for the Prevention of Extremism and Terrorism until 2040. The strategy is aimed at strengthening the national security system, developing legal and political awareness, preventing radicalization, particularly among youth, and enhancing the role of mass media in creating a healthy information environment.
The conference was attended and addressed by Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Tajikistan Davlat Safar (moderator), a representative of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, heads of departments and divisions of the ministry, representatives of subordinate institutions of the Ministry of Culture, as well as a representative of the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Tajikistan.
During the speeches, it was emphasized that mass media and press centers can play a key role in preventing the spread of extremist ideas, shaping healthy public opinion, and protecting the information environment. The participants also discussed issues related to strengthening interagency cooperation, using modern information methods, and enhancing awareness and outreach activities.
At the conclusion of the conference, participants exchanged views and presented specific proposals aimed at strengthening joint efforts in countering terrorism and extremism.
The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tajikistan expresses hope that the outcomes of the conference will contribute to increasing the role of mass media in ensuring information security and strengthening efforts against negative phenomena.
