Strengthening Scientific and Practical Cooperation Between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan: Demonstration Cotton Fields to be Established in the City of Hisor
In light of the wise policy of the heads of the two states — the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the esteemed Emomali Rahmon, and the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the esteemed Shavkat Mirziyoyev, scientific and agricultural cooperation and the exchange of experience between the agricultural agencies of the two friendly countries are expanding.
Within the framework of these initiatives, the Director of the Institute of Agriculture of the Tajik Academy of Agricultural Sciences (TAAS) paid a working visit to the Republic of Uzbekistan, where he met with the leadership of the Scientific Research Institute of Cotton Breeding, Seed Production, and Agrotechnology of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The main purpose of this visit was to strengthen scientific ties and introduce modern technologies into cotton farming. As a result of negotiations, a delegation of Uzbek experts visited Tajikistan, and the parties signed a formal cooperation agreement.
Creation of Demonstration Fields Using the "Xinjiang Method"
On April 20, 2026, an Agreement on Grant Assistance (No. 2/2026) was signed between the Institute of Agriculture of the TAAS and the Scientific Research Institute of Cotton Breeding, Seed Production, and Agrotechnology of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
According to this agreement, demonstration fields for cotton cultivation using the advanced experience of the "Xinjiang method" will be organized in the city of Hisor (Sharora settlement).
Within the framework of bilateral scientific cooperation, the Uzbek side will transfer equipment and materials to the Institute of Agriculture of the TAAS on a grant basis, including:
- High-quality seeds: "Rannik-1" and "Porlok-4" varieties;
- Modern technology: A complete drip irrigation system for 15 hectares;
- Material and technical support: Polyethylene film, mineral fertilizers, and equipment for the construction of a 350 m³ water reservoir;
- Technical and consulting services: Design, installation of irrigation equipment, and agrotechnical consultations from Uzbek specialists.
During the visit, the working group visited the "Latif Murod" farms in the city of Hisor, the Rudaki district, and other structural units of the institution. Furthermore, the guests closely familiarized themselves with the activities of the "Agroleasing" enterprise of the Republic of Tajikistan, studied its technical capabilities, and exchanged views on the future use of agricultural machinery on the experimental plots.
It is expected that the implementation of this project will contribute to the development of the cotton sector, the effective conservation of water resources, and an increase in land productivity in Tajikistan.
