Legal and Political Literacy as a Key Factor in Preventing Extremism
On July 28, 2026, a meeting dedicated to the topic "Extremism and Ways to Prevent It in Modern Conditions" was held at the Anti-Monopoly Agency under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, with the participation of the Agency's leadership and staff, as well as a representative of the law enforcement agencies.
The meeting was opened by the First Deputy Head of the Anti-Monopoly Agency, Azimi Azamat. In his speech, he shared his views on the importance of preventing extremism, raising the level of legal and political awareness among employees, enhancing civic responsibility, and the role of every individual in safeguarding national security.
During the meeting, it was emphasized that peace, stability, and national unity are the most vital achievements of Tajikistan's independence. It was precisely through the dedicated efforts of the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, and the support of the people, that peace and tranquility were restored in Tajikistan after the difficult years of the civil war. This peace and national unity laid a favorable foundation for the country's sustainable development, economic and social progress, the construction of critical strategic facilities, and the advancement of energy, transport, industry, education, healthcare, and other sectors of the national economy.
Next, a representative of the country's law enforcement agencies delivered a report on the ways to prevent extremism in modern conditions, the threat of youth and other segments of society being drawn into extremist groups, and the negative impact of extremist propaganda via social networks. It was noted that in recent years, extremist groups have utilized various information technology methods to recruit citizens, especially young people. Therefore, raising legal literacy, national self-awareness, political vigilance, and fostering a culture of responsible use of the information space are of paramount importance.
At the same time, it was stressed that the fight against extremism is not solely the duty of law enforcement agencies, but a shared responsibility of the state, society, family, and every citizen. In this context, promoting national values, patriotism, respect for the law, the protection of national interests, and raising youth in the spirit of self-awareness were evaluated as critical factors in preventing them from joining extremist groups.
Participants also recalled the international initiatives of the Republic of Tajikistan aimed at strengthening peace and security, noting that today Tajikistan is recognized globally as a peace-loving and proactive nation in addressing global challenges. In particular, the adoption of Tajikistan's new initiative entitled "International Decade for the Strengthening of Peace for Future Generations, 2027–2036" via a United Nations General Assembly resolution is aimed at promoting a culture of peace, mutual understanding, and international cooperation, further strengthening the country's standing as a proponent of peace and stability.
At the end of the meeting, participants exchanged views on the issues discussed and expressed their readiness to contribute to the prevention of extremism, the strengthening of peace and national unity, the protection of state interests, and the maintenance of societal stability and security.
