THE FINAL MEETING WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE PROJECT "STRENGTHENING DEMOGRAPHIC STATISTICS IN THE REPUBLIC OF TAJIKISTAN" AND THE OFFICIAL CEREMONY OF SUMMING UP THE RESULTS OF THE POPULATION AND HOUSING CENSUS OF THE REPUBLIC OF TAJIKISTAN IN 2020

The meeting was attended by heads and heads of departments and departments of the Agency for Statistics, representatives of ministries and departments and development partners, such as the representative office of the United Nations Foundation for Influence in Tajikistan, the representative office of the United Nations Children's Fund in Tajikistan, the representative office of the United Nations Development Program in Tajikistan, the representative office of the International Organization for Migration in Tajikistan, the representative office of the World Food Program in Tajikistan and the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Tajikistan.

The meeting was opened by Jamshed Nurmakhmadzoda, Director of the Agency for Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, expressing gratitude to the Government of the country and development partners who provided assistance and support in preparing and conducting an important political campaign at a high level – the population and housing census in 2020, as well as providing technical and methodological assistance in improving demographic statistics, improving the level of knowledge and work of statistical staff.

Jamshed Nurmakhmadzoda noted that demographic statistics is the only statistical source that is used to assess the country's well-being, income and expenditure indicators, population availability of food, non-food products and services, to assess poverty, food poverty and calculate the middle class of the population, as well as other indicators related to health care costs., education and other fields.

• After all, the effective result of generalizing and analyzing demographic statistics and indicators achieved in this direction creates a favorable basis for determining the prospects for socio-economic development of the country and improving the well-being of the people. At the same time, it was noted that demographic statistical indicators contribute to ensuring key national indicators in the National Development Strategy of the Republic of Tajikistan for the period up to 2030, the medium-term development Program of the Republic of Tajikistan for 2021-2025, as well as in the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the assessment of their implementation as the only source of statistical information.

It should be noted that in accordance with the decrees of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan of October 12, 2015 No. 572 “on the preparation and conduct of the population census and housing of the Republic of Tajikistan in 2020,” dated September 30, 2019 No. 1356 “on the census of population and housing of the Republic of Tajikistan in 2020” and the Law of the Republic of Tajikistan dated may 19, 2009, №523 “census of population” and also in accordance with the recommendations of the United Nations for all countries of the census every ten years, From October 1 to October 15, 2020, a population and housing census was conducted in the territory of the Republic of Tajikistan.
