On February 18, 2025, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, under the leadership of First Deputy Minister Solehzoda Ashurboy Abduvahid and with the participation of the Head of the World Bank Group’s Permanent Mission, Ozan Sevimli, representatives of relevant ministries and agencies, as well as World Bank experts, held a meeting of the Council on the Expansion of the Middle Class Population, during which the Methodology for Determining the Middle-Class Population Level for Tajikistan was approved.
The methodology for determining the middle-class population level was developed taking into account the country's specific characteristics, based on the instructions of the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, announced on June 10, 2024, at the meeting of the National Development Council under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan. The development and approval of the methodology were carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, the Agency for Statistics, and a group of World Bank experts.
This methodology, developed for the first time for Tajikistan, defines an accurate and comprehensive mechanism for assessing the middle-class population, providing a reliable foundation for the development of socio-economic policies and development strategies.
In addition, the meeting reviewed the results of the poverty and economic equality analysis conducted by the World Bank. This analysis contributes to a deeper understanding of the population’s welfare level and the formulation of effective socio-economic policies in the country.
The approval of the methodology for determining the middle-class population level is an important strategic step towards the sustainable development of the national economy and the improvement of the population's living standards. This initiative lays the groundwork for strengthening the middle class as a key pillar of economic growth and social stability in Tajikistan.
