On August 31, 2026, the United Nations General Assembly, at the initiative of the Republic of Tajikistan, adopted a Resolution according to which, starting from 2027, August 31 is celebrated as the International Day of Safe, Secure and Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence.
The adoption of this Resolution is a logical continuation of the consistent policy of the Republic of Tajikistan and the initiatives of the Founder of Peace and National Unity - the Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, in the field of artificial intelligence development, new technologies and their responsible use.
The choice of August 31 has historical significance, as it was on this very day in 1955 that the proposal for the Dartmouth College research project on artificial intelligence was put forward.
The proclamation of this International Day creates a favourable foundation for strengthening global cooperation, experience exchange, and the safe and responsible development of artificial intelligence.
At the same time, the annual observance of this day will contribute to strengthening international cooperation, exchanging best practices, expanding intergovernmental dialogue, and promoting effective ways to harness the opportunities of artificial intelligence for the benefit of sustainable development.
This initiative represents an important contribution of the Republic of Tajikistan to shaping the international agenda on artificial intelligence and reflects the country's active stance in using new technologies for the benefit of sustainable development and the well-being of humanity.
