On January 15, 2025, as part of the official visit of the delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran, a meeting was held between the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan, Zavkizoda Zavki Amin, and the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Samad Hasanzada.
Zavkizoda Z. A. noted that the wise policies and initiatives of the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, H.E. Emomali Rahmon, and the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, H.E. Masoud Pizishkian, have created a solid foundation for comprehensive development and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, the parties discussed key issues of trade and economic cooperation, including the implementation of joint projects such as the Sangtuda-2 Hydropower Plant and the Istiklol Tunnel.
Zavkizoda Z. A. stated that the volume of bilateral trade in 2024 amounted to $378 million, with direct investment reaching only $0.5 million. In this context, it was emphasized that these indicators fall short of the existing potential of the two countries, and serious measures should be taken to enhance mutual trade and attract greater investments.
Samad Hasanzada expressed readiness on behalf of the Iranian side to expand cooperation and, by strengthening collaboration in infrastructure and increasing investments, create new opportunities for the socio-economic development of both countries.
The meeting was held in a friendly atmosphere, with both parties expressing their willingness to fully utilize existing opportunities and implement joint projects in the fields of industry, trade, and investment.
