On January 23, 2026, the 20th meeting of the Governing Council of the United Nations Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) was held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
The meeting was attended by Nuriddinzoda Ahliddin, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan and Head of the SPECA Working Group on Trade, who presented the country's position on strengthening regional trade and economic cooperation.
At the event, decisions were made based on the results of the SPECA Economic Forum and the meetings of the program's working groups, and prospects for strengthening the program's future activities were identified.
It is worth noting that the outcome document of the SPECA Economic Forum reflected the effective implementation of the UN General Assembly resolution "The Role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Creating New Opportunities for Sustainable Development in Central Asia," adopted at the initiative of the Republic of Tajikistan in July 2025.
In addition, the second meeting of the Steering Committee of the SPECA Multi-Partner Trust Fund was held on the sidelines of the Council meeting, during which procedures for funding and implementing projects in the program’s areas of activity were discussed.
