On 31 August 2026, the United Nations General Assembly, at the initiative of the Republic of Tajikistan, adopted a resolution pursuant to which, starting from 2027, 31 August will be observed as the International Day of Safe, Secure and Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence.
The adoption of this resolution represents a continuation of the consistent policy of the Republic of Tajikistan and the initiatives of the Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, in promoting the development of artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, and their responsible use.
The choice of 31 August has historical significance, as it was on this day in 1955 that a proposal was put forward for a research project at Dartmouth University dedicated to artificial intelligence.
The proclamation of this International Day provides a valuable platform for strengthening global cooperation, exchanging experience, and promoting the safe and responsible development of artificial intelligence.
This initiative represents an important contribution by the Republic of Tajikistan to shaping the international agenda on artificial intelligence and reflects the country's active position in promoting the use of emerging technologies for sustainable development and the well-being of humanity.
