35 YEARS OF INDEPENDENCE — 35 YEARS OF SCIENTIFIC DEVELOPMENT, RESEARCH AND ACHIEVEMENT
“SCIENCE FOR BIOLOGICAL SECURITY, ANIMAL HEALTH AND THE FUTURE OF THE COUNTRY”
35 years of state independence of the Republic of Tajikistan represent 35 years of national revival, nation-building, development of science and education, and strengthening of the country’s scientific capacity.
Throughout this historic journey, the State Institution “Institute of Biological Safety and Biotechnology Problems” of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Tajikistan has also written its own important pages in the history of national science.
Today, the Institute represents one of the important scientific institutions in the country working in the fields of biological safety, veterinary medicine, laboratory diagnosis of infectious diseases, epizootology, microbiology, virology and biotechnology.
FROM A BRANCH TO A MODERN SCIENTIFIC INSTITUTION
The history of the Institute dates back to 1971. On 21 February 1992, the institution became part of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Tajikistan.
In subsequent years, its institutional status was further developed in accordance with the emerging needs of the sector:
— 2008 — Scientific and Production Enterprise “Biological Preparations”;
— 2014 — Institute of Biological Safety Problems;
— 2020 — Institute of Biological Safety and Biotechnology Problems.
These institutional transformations reflect the expansion of its responsibilities and the growing role of the Institute within the national scientific system.
35 YEARS — A SCHOOL OF SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH
During the years of independence, the Institute’s scientific activities have focused on important challenges in veterinary science and biological safety.
Key areas include:
🧫 research on infectious and particularly dangerous animal diseases;
🧬 virological and bacteriological research;
🔬 laboratory diagnosis of diseases;
🐄 monitoring of infectious diseases in livestock;
🐑 research on diseases of small ruminants;
🐔 diagnosis of viral diseases of poultry;
🧪 development and improvement of preventive and diagnostic tools;
🧬 application of modern biotechnological methods;
🦠 collection, study and preservation of pathogenic microorganisms;
👩🔬 training of highly qualified scientific personnel.
These areas are implemented through the Institute’s specialized laboratories and scientific divisions.
HUMAN RESOURCES — THE MAIN CAPITAL OF SCIENCE
One of the important indicators of the Institute’s development is the formation of its scientific human-resource capacity.
According to previously published official data of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Tajikistan, the Institute had 72 employees, including 36 scientific researchers, 5 Doctors of Veterinary and Biological Sciences, 1 academician and 12 Candidates of Veterinary and Biological Sciences.
Today, strengthening human resources, training young researchers and developing scientific personnel remain among the important priorities of the institution.
Because every scientific achievement is, above all, the result of human thought, knowledge, experience and dedicated work.
SCIENCE SERVING PRODUCTION
The value of science is not limited to theoretical results.
The Institute’s research findings have practical importance in the diagnosis, prevention and control of infectious animal diseases, improving the effectiveness of veterinary measures and strengthening biological safety.
The connection between “science → laboratory → production → practical result” remains one of the important directions of the Institute’s work.
BIOLOGICAL SAFETY — A GREAT RESPONSIBILITY
In the modern world, biological threats recognize no national borders.
Therefore, the study of infectious diseases, epizootological monitoring, improvement of laboratory diagnostics, preservation of microorganism collections and development of effective preventive measures are of strategic importance.
The Institute continues its scientific activities in these areas.
Biological safety is not merely a matter for one laboratory.
It is an important component of national security, food security and public health.
SCIENCE AND MODERN INFRASTRUCTURE
In recent years, modernization and improvement of the Institute’s infrastructure have also expanded.
As part of this process, the material and technical facilities of laboratories, the veterinary clinic, vivarium, educational classrooms, greenhouses and other supporting facilities are being improved.
New facilities are not simply buildings — they are the material and technical foundation for a new generation of scientific research.
SCIENCE THAT LEAVES A LEGACY
One of the important outcomes of the Institute’s scientific activity during the years of independence has been the production of scientific articles, books, monographs, methodological manuals, production recommendations, inventions and other scientific materials.
Every article, every scientific manual and every research result represents a part of the history of national science.
For this reason, particular importance is attached to the book:
“Scientific Research and Production Achievements of the State Institution ‘Institute of Biological Safety and Biotechnology Problems’ of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Tajikistan (2021–2026)”.
The publication reflects the scientific journey, research activities, production achievements and contributions of the Institute’s scientists and employees.
🇹🇯 35 YEARS OF INDEPENDENCE — 35 YEARS OF SCIENTIFIC CONTRIBUTION
Today, the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Tajikistan brings together 11 scientific institutions, and the Institute of Biological Safety and Biotechnology Problems is one of its specialized institutions.
During the 35 years of independence, the Institute has followed a complex scientific path, developing from a specialized structure into an institution with a broad range of scientific areas.
Today, the task of scientists is not limited to studying diseases.
Their task is to anticipate, prevent, diagnose, protect and provide scientific solutions for the future of the country.
35 YEARS — 35 STEPS TOWARD THE FUTURE
Looking back at the Institute’s journey, its main principles can be expressed as follows:
from science — to production;
from experience — to innovation;
from research — to results;
from a scientific school — to a new generation of scientists.
This is the 35-year journey of the Institute of Biological Safety and Biotechnology Problems during the period of state independence.
Building on its accumulated experience, scientific potential and modern material and technical facilities, the Institute will continue contributing to the development of veterinary science, strengthening biological safety, preventing infectious animal diseases, advancing biotechnology and ensuring food security in the Republic of Tajikistan.
🇹🇯 HAPPY 35TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE STATE INDEPENDENCE OF THE REPUBLIC OF TAJIKISTAN!
Science is a force for progress.
A scientist is a guardian of knowledge.
Achievement is a legacy of the nation.
