Happy Mehrgon – the great festival of kings!
Mehrgon, one of the most ancient festivals of the Aryan peoples, has been recognized as a national holiday of our country thanks to the State Independence and the initiative of the Founder of Peace and National Unity – the Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon.
The official celebration of this festival shows that our ancient nation, under the guidance of the Head of State, has turned back to its cultural roots and considers the revival of these traditions an honorable duty.
The Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, in one of his speeches, emphasized:
“Mehrgon is considered the autumn festival of the year. Our ancestors celebrated it as a symbol of gratitude for nature’s blessings and the hard work of farmers, thus honoring the bond between humans and nature.
In this sense, Mehrgon originated with the development of agriculture and the creation of the farming calendar; therefore, it is known as the festival of harvest and farmers.
In spring, our ancestors began their agricultural and gardening work with good intentions and hopes for a rich harvest, and in autumn, after gathering their crops, they celebrated joyfully and congratulated one another.”
During the Soviet era, people also celebrated this festival in autumn, but politicians of that time tried to use it for their own purposes. Thus, in Central Asia, it was observed as the “Festival of Harvest” or “Festival of Fruits,” accompanied by music, dance, and celebration.

Thanks to the efforts of the Head of State, the festival of Mehrgon has been revived and is celebrated more widely every year. Nowadays, in Tajikistan, Mehrgon is observed in October, in connection with the country’s Independence Day.
In towns and districts across the nation, people display agricultural achievements, and artistic groups perform songs, dances, and festive programs in open spaces.
During the celebration, various agricultural products are sold at affordable prices at fairs, and in some cities, theatrical performances dedicated to Mehrgon are organized.
It can be confidently stated that the noble people of Tajikistan celebrate Mehrgon throughout the country with the same enthusiasm as Nowruz, taking pride in their patriotic and culturally minded Leader and working diligently for the progress of their beloved homeland.
The Institute of Biological Security and Biotechnology of the Agricultural Academy of the Republic of Tajikistan congratulates all compatriots on the occasion of Mehrgon and wishes everyone health, happiness, love, light, abundance, good fortune, and success!
