On September 30, 2026, an international scientific and practical conference on “Green Investment in the Agricultural Sector of the Republic of Tajikistan: Potential and Opportunities” was held in the assembly hall of the Institute of Economics and Systemic Research of Agricultural Development of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Tajikistan.
The conference was held in accordance with Resolution No. 2 of the Presidium of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Tajikistan dated December 30, 2025, “On the Plan for the Organization of International, National and Regional Scientific and Practical Conferences and Seminars, Field Days, Farmers’ Meetings and Round Tables Initiated by the Institutions of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences for 2026.” The conference was dedicated to discussing key issues related to sustainable development and the attraction of green investment to the country’s agricultural sector.
Representatives of ministries and government agencies participated in the conference, including the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Tajikistan, the National Bank of Tajikistan, the State Committee on Investment and State Property Management of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Food Security Committee under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, scientists from the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Tajikistan, Sh. Shotemur Tajik Agrarian University, Tajik National University, the Institute of Economics and Demography of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, and the Tajik State University of Finance and Economics. Scientists and experts from the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation also participated remotely.
The conference addressed issues related to trends and prospects for sustainable agricultural development, the attraction of domestic and foreign investment, the development of environmentally friendly technologies, the use of renewable energy sources, the rational use of land and water resources, increasing the efficiency of agricultural production, ensuring food security, and adapting the agricultural sector to the impacts of climate change.
During the presentations, it was emphasized that under modern conditions, the transition to a green economy is one of the important directions for the sustainable development of the country’s economy. In this context, agriculture, as one of the key sectors of the national economy, requires the introduction of resource-efficient technologies, the rational use of natural resources, and the attraction of environmentally oriented investment.
It was noted that the Republic of Tajikistan has significant potential for the development of green investment in agriculture. Water resources, favorable climatic conditions, high potential for renewable energy, opportunities to apply modern technologies, and government policy aimed at developing a green economy create favorable conditions for implementing environmentally oriented investment projects.
At the same time, the use of water-saving technologies, the development of organic agriculture, the use of solar and other renewable energy sources, the digitalization of production processes, and the introduction of modern agricultural technologies were identified as important areas of green development in the sector.
The conference noted that the introduction of green technologies can contribute not only to environmental protection and the rational use of natural resources, but also to increasing agricultural productivity, reducing production costs, improving the quality of agricultural products, increasing producers’ incomes, and enhancing the competitiveness of domestic products.
The participants also emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation among scientific institutions, government authorities, the banking sector, the private sector, and development partners. They also highlighted the importance of advancing scientific research, training highly qualified specialists, and developing mechanisms for assessing the economic, social, and environmental effectiveness of green projects.
It was noted that government support measures implemented in recent years have contributed to the development of investment activities in agriculture. In particular, over the past five years, more than 93 million somoni have been allocated from the state budget to provide financial support to the agro-industrial sector, which is 26.6 percent more than during the previous five-year period.
The conference also emphasized that the implementation of the objectives of the Strategy for the Development of the Green Economy in the Republic of Tajikistan for 2023–2037 provides an important foundation for ensuring sustainable economic development, social stability, environmental balance, and improving the living standards of the population.
