The Center’s staff have completed the collection of cocoons from the breeding material. The biological parameters of the mulberry silkworm—including egg survival rate, larval rearing duration, average cocoon weight, cocoon shell thickness, shell percentage (silk content), and silkworm viability—were recorded in special logbooks.
The preliminary survival rate ranged from 96% to 98.6%. Individual selection of breeding mulberry silkworm specimens was carried out, pupae were separated by sex, each cocoon was weighed, and cocoon shell thickness was determined to assess the silk content of the breeding families.
Each family demonstrating the best performance indicators was placed in special bags and prepared for mating of adult moths and the production of high-quality mulberry silkworm seed material.
